EASY PEASY BALM RECIPE

Learn to make your very own skin loving balm

At Wild Sage we hand make a variety of different skin loving balms and oil blends. But we know this is something a lot of you’d like to try at home too.

There really is nothing better than getting to grips with the beautiful oils we use everyday, watching the shea melt and blend with golden oils as they swirl and dance together. There’s something magical about making your own skin care, and so we wanted to share a little bit of that magic with you.

So here is our easy peasy balm recipe for you to try out. It’s formulated for particularly dry areas of skin or the hands and feet, and so it might be a bit heavy for the skin on your face - but that all depends on your skin type

Ingredients found in nature

Using natural ingredients is at the very heart of what we do. We believe that the oils, minerals and clays that the natural world provides are more than enough to revitalise and nourish your skin. No need for chemicals, preservatives or fragrances, just simple, honest + good ingredients.

The recipe below is made using three simple ingredients;
Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Shea Butter + Beeswax

Beeswax makes the perfect barrier between your skin and the elements and contains Vitamin A which promotes cell regeneration.

We’ve included Extra Virgin Olive Oil for its high content of Vitamin E, an anti-oxidant that helps to fight free radicals.

Shea Butter is this balms main player, its deeply moisturising properties make it perfect for winter skin, and helps to keep the skin supple

Your Recipe

18g
Beeswax

100g Extra Virgin Olive oil

22g Shea butter

1g of you’re favourite essential oil.
(We love Lavender for its healing and relaxing properties, but its totally up to you)

The Equipment you’ll need

1
x Sauce pan + metal pot. Were essentially going to be making our own bain-marie.

200ml sterilized tin or pot to pour the balm into

1 x Apron to protect your clothes from leaks or spills

Lets get to making

The Balm Making Method

  • Boil some water in your kettle or the pan itself, and allow to simmer. You’ll want enough water to cover the bottom of your metal bowl but not so much that it goes over the edges

  • Place your metal bowl over the simmering water (making sure that not water gets into the bowl) and add the Olive oil Shea Butter + Beeswax

  • Stirring slowly, allow all the oils to mix and mingle thoroughly with each other before you bring them off the heat. This may take a little while, but it’ll pay off in the end

  • Remove the bowl from the water and place on the side before you add your essential oils - too much heat will cause them to evaporate

  • Give it all a good stir before pouring into your balm container

  • Leave the lid off while you allow your lovely new balm to cool, some where safe where nothing can fall into it and where no one will knock it over.

Once it’s cooled you are ready to go, use this balm for particularly dry or rough areas of skin. Perfect for gardeners hands or for a deep, over night moisturisation
